Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Honours
Champion Technology Group Chairman Paul Kan
with Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire Award
at Buckingham Palace

(Hong Kong, 13th July, 2006) – Paul Kan, JP, Chairman and Founder of Champion Technology Group, made the following statement on receiving a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) award from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II:
“I am very honoured and privileged to be admitted to this most prestigious league, where recognitions have been awarded to a long list of great men and women for their far-reaching and substantial lifetime accomplishments over the years. I have great admiration for their achievements and from whom, I still have a lot to learn. I shall always remember the wise counsel, great encouragement and support rendered to me in the past by friends, colleagues, and business partners, both locally and overseas, to whom I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude.”
Mr. Kan added, “This is indeed an honour that belongs to Hong Kong, and should be shared by its people and all those who grew up here and who share my values in the Hong Kong spirit. I am just one of many living in Hong Kong, which is my home that has afforded me every opportunity and made me where I am today. The honour represents the recognition and endorsement of the hard work of my colleagues and all those I am associated with, who have contributed to our society over the years, and of whom I am proud. The encouragement embraced by the honour will be invaluable to sustaining our bond with the society and the international community.”

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II conferred the honour in a private ceremony held at Buckingham Palace. Mr. Paul Kan was accompanied by his wife Maria, younger daughter Joanne, son-in-law Eric Yang, as well as 17-month old granddaughter Jasmine, when receiving the prestigious award.
The Queen’s Honours serve to recognise distinguished service in any form by people from every section of the community. As the 'fountain of honour' in the United Kingdom, Her Majesty has the sole right of conferring all titles of honour, including life peerages, knighthoods and gallantry awards. While Her Majesty confers honours based on the advice of the Prime Minister, anybody can make a recommendation for a British national to receive an honour. Honorary decorations are also granted to people from other countries who have made a significant contribution to business and the world, and such awards are granted on the advice of the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The Order was created by King George V in 1917 and was divided into military and civil divisions. According to the FCO, the honorary CBE award recognises Mr. Kan’s contribution to business and a very high standard of management ethics in his business endeavours.
